We’re still years away from the next Star Wars movie, but rumors are already flying about the original trilogy’s cast and their potential involvement in the sequel trilogy. Mark Hamill noted hopefully that LucasFilm is talking to the original actors. Harrison Ford, meanwhile, apparently did not turn down the idea right away, and “shrugging indifference” is practically a resounding endorsement in Fordland. Now, the third member of the original Power Trio has sounded off about her involvement. Palm Beach Illustrated asked Carrie Fisher if she’d reprise her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII. The actress responded — simply, but firmly — “yes.”
Fisher didn’t have any other information about her return trip or about the film. Which is understandable, since the film is still in the early stages, with Michael Arndt working on the screenplay while director J.J. Abrams plots his domination of yet another sci-fi universe. When contacted by EW, a rep for LucasFilm responded, “We haven’t made any announcements about casting.” For her part, Fisher offered that Leia was “in an intergalactic old folks’ home…she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.” (Fisher did not address the rumor that Star Wars VII will actually be an alternate-timeline crossover with Hollywood’s other Reunion Sevenquel X-Men: Days of Future Past, because we just started that rumor and it’s definitely not true.)
Of course, there’s plenty of Leia canon to draw on for the movie. In the books, the former Princess became a big wheel in the government of the New Republic. She also became the mother to a new generation of Jedi…and, to put it delicately, not all of her children turned out well. It seems likely that, if the original cast does return for the new movie, it’ll be similar to Spock’s role in Abrams’ Star Trek: A few quick scenes with a couple of iconic lines. Like, maybe Princess Leia will appear in a hologram and say, “Help me, [name of main character in Star Wars Episode VII], you’re my only hope.”

As a fan of the New Jedi Order, Fate of the Jedi and Legacy of the Jedi I got to be fair, they are correct, but come on, as Meat Loaf says 2 out of 3 aint bad. That statement makes it sound worse.
Anakin gets killed a hero, Jacen becomes a Sith starts a war kills is aunt then is killed by his sister, but before that he was a hero of the Vong War, and Jania is the Sword of the Jedi, and seems to be becoming a main hero of the EU. That said, I THINK the original 3 being in E-VII seems to be a good idea, hope it is done right. Spock had a decent role in the new Star Trek, not staring but more then a just a cameo.
All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi." - Randal Graves |
