Disney buys Lucasfilm for $4B... the next part I thought was a joke, but I got it off the Disney website!

STAR WARS: EPISODE 7 feature film targeted for release in 2015...
...with plans to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years.

Oh no, not sure I like this. The Star Wars brand has been so over extended and diluted and commercialized anymore. To me it has really started to suffer.
Episode 7,8,9 ? is that to make up for 1,2 and 3 ?
Now we will see little Obi-wan in a cartoon with Duck tails or baby Mickey.

This could go either way.
Huge potential though......with the EU already established, Disney could take the route Lucas never would.
Imagine 7, 8 and 9 actually being the 'Heir To The Empire' Trilogy on the big screen? (What many have wanted for a long, long time)
Then the follow up films being set during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion? Or even in the Old Republic? This has huge potential for the already established EU and expanding upon it even further.
Then there's the dark side.
They make new films and steamroll all the last 30 years of EU and alienate fans. The last thing Star Wars needs is a 'reboot' of any type. I'm worried this is what's going to happen with the trend lately of 'rebooting' series.

| I can understand why Disney wants to use E7 to "reboot" the series, but I think it would have been really gutsy to have announced that they were starting with Episode 1. |

Man I just really suprised he is selling control of it. I mean that is what made him a $$$$$$$ he kept control when ANH was released, he kept the marketing rights. Just makes me wonder, did this agreement give disney 100% control to change it how ever they want.
What about Indiana Jones, is that not LFL property also ?
I mean hell do they control Howard the Duck too?
Can Disney make Han shoot first again ???

| I'm torn as well. But Lucas clearly became **** at writing/directing. As others have said, though, it could go either way. Still, I'm gonna stay positive that we'll get some quality Star Wars filmmaking for the first time since 1983. |
