I have felt a trembling in the Force lately regarding a new series of lead/diecast SW chess pieces. 
It seems that there is a company called Altaya who distributes lead/diecast figures, planes, cars and other vehicles in France & Spain.
Here is the official French site and here is the official Spanish site for Altaya.
No word or pics on either of those sites about this new SW chess series... but here's some pics of the French versions I have found.
Looks like each of the figures will be about 4" tall and come w/a magazine of some kind.
#1 in the series is Darth Vader. #2 is Chewbacca.
Hopefully I will be able to offer some better pics in the next week or so.

These are really cool! Actually, the whole idea is pretty sweet. A subscription service where you get one chess piece each month in order to complete the whole set. Pretty cool.
Between these and the DeAgostini's, those Europeans are putting out some cool stuff.

I just got a couple of these in the mail today! 
Taking good pics is a bit difficult because everything is wrapped/sealed in cellophane-like plastic.
The boxed Vader is wrapped and stuck/glued to the cool, giant French backboard and the magazine is sealed. The Chewie fig is boxed and sealed with the magazine.
From what I can translate on the back... there will be a new figure every 15 days.
Though these guys are fairly small... they weigh in at over 1/2 pound each!
Though my above pics aren't as clear as I would have liked... my pics next week should be better. I have loose versions of both Vader and Chewie along with their magazines on the way!  |

Sweet. How did you get those? I went to both of the sites and didn't see them?

Looks like chess piece #3 has been released in France.
  
Notice how the price increased from EUR 1.99 for figure #1 (Darth Vader) to EUR 5.99 for figure #2 (Chewbacca) to EUR 9.99 for figure #3 (C-3PO). The prices for Vader and Chewie were probably promotional. |

I love to play chess.I would love to get those.If I can only get one I want an Old Ben.Wouldn't mind a set of R2 and 3PO too.

I received the loose Vader & Chewie today. Technically they weren't loose since they were still sealed in their boxes... but loose from the packaging that I showed earlier.
This is just a quickie post with a couple pics of the sweet Vader... but there will be more pics and info coming when I have time this weekend.
All-in-all... a quality piece!
There are some issues like Vader's slightly bent saber and the rubbing on the figure from the plastic insert.
Again... I will post more details and pics from the magazines that were included and interesting info about the chess pieces themselves in the next few days. |
